By bursitis we mean an inflammatory process of the serous bursa of a joint.
Under normal conditions, the movement between tendons and muscles is maintained by the presence of two sheets with a serous flowing liquid interposed, thus avoiding the generation of friction phenomena.
The main symptom of bursitis is aching (pain) on movement and palpation. The pathology is diagnosed through an ultrasound examination of the soft tissues of the affected area which is usually swollen and edematous, reddened and hot.
Bursitis therapy consists of immobilization of the affected joint with symptomatic support therapies (painkilling drugs), curative (cryotherapy, anti-inflammatory drugs, infiltrations) and rehabilitation (ultrasound, iontophoresis, tecar therapy).
